NURS6760 FNP Practicum: Adult
NURS6760 is the adult practicum in Graceland University's FNP track: 225 hours in a family practice, or in an internal medicine practice that is not a specialty clinic. It is primary care only, it can come before or after Pediatrics, and it is the natural course in which to meet a preceptor who can stay with you into the Family practicum.

Unlike the pediatric course, the catalog prints no hour figure for NURS6760, so there is no catalog-versus-handbook dispute here. The handbook's 225, or 180 on the older plan, is the only number in play.
Family practice or internal medicine, but not a specialty clinic
Graceland accepts two settings for this course: a family practice, or an internal medicine practice “if they are not a specialty clinic.” The handbook marks the course as primary care clinic only, and no specialty hours may be logged in it.
That rule is sharper than it looks. An internal medicine group that runs a cardiac or diabetes clinic is not a primary care site for this course, even when every physician there trained in internal medicine. The handbook's non-primary-care list applies in full, from urgent care and emergency departments to minute clinics, hospitalist work and diagnostic clinics built around women's health, the heart, diabetes or wounds.
Those settings have their place later, since they can supply up to half the Family practicum's hours. For the adult course, keep every hour in general adult primary care; the FNP specialty hours page explains the cap. Telehealth needs your instructor's approval, as in every FNP practicum.
Who can precept the adult practicum
Nurse practitioners and physicians qualify; physician assistants do not, for any Graceland practicum hour. Nurse practitioners qualify with a master's from an NLNAC- or CCNE-accredited school plus a year or more in practice; the handbook will also consider an ANCC- or AANP-certified NP without a master's who has one to three years of full-time work behind them. Physicians qualify with an MD or DO and board status, certified or eligible, in a primary care specialty such as family medicine or general internal medicine.
Whoever precepts you must be licensed, without encumbrance, in the clinic's state. Missouri NPs work under a written collaborative arrangement with a physician, which affects their schedules and chart review; see Missouri collaborative practice.
Graceland's handbook suggests spending 120 hours or more of the track with an APRN or NP to support ANCC or AANP eligibility. If a physician is precepting your pediatric course, an NP here covers that suggestion early.
Carrying a preceptor into the Family practicum
This course is often the best place to meet the preceptor who finishes your program. Graceland lets one preceptor work with you for two terms out of three, and a family practice preceptor who takes you for adult primary care may take you again for NURS6830, where the setting must serve patients from newborns to older adults.
An internal medicine preceptor fits this course but not the Family practicum, which needs a practice that sees children as well as adults. If you hope to keep one preceptor for two terms, choose a family practice now.
The pairing has limits worth planning for. The track still requires two or more different preceptors overall, so if one person precepts both Adult and Family, your pediatric preceptor has to be someone new. Paperwork repeats too: Appendix B is completed anew each term a preceptor is used, and Appendix A is filed per term, site and address.
Planning your term
Two full clinic days a week keeps a 225-hour course on track. That schedule yields 224 hours by week 14, the point by which Graceland's faculty ask that hours be complete. Confirm the practice's daily adult volume too, so your patient count keeps pace with your hours.
Your paperwork date depends on the term: Fall's is June 15, Spring's October 15 and Summer's February 15, and by then Appendix A, the preceptor's Appendix B and your Castle Branch items must all be in. The affiliation agreement has to be signed before your first hour, and coverage for one clinic in a network says nothing about its sister clinics.

Questions Graceland students ask
Can an internal medicine physician precept NURS6760?
Yes, if the practice is general internal medicine rather than a specialty clinic and the physician holds primary care board certification or eligibility. Keep in mind that an adult-only internal medicine practice will not fit the Family practicum, which needs pediatric and adult patients, so that preceptor covers this course only.
Can I do the adult practicum at an urgent care?
No. Graceland limits NURS6760 to primary care, and urgent care is on the handbook's list of settings that are not primary care. Urgent care time has a use later, as specialty time in the Family practicum, NURS6830, which caps specialty hours at half the requirement (150 on the 750-hour plan).
Is NURS6760 180 or 225 hours?
It is 225 if your Graceland start date is August 1, 2023 or later, or if you are on the newer catalog after Fall 2026; it is 180 for earlier starters still on the 600-hour plan. The catalog description gives no hours for this course, so the handbook's figures are the ones to plan around.
Can I split NURS6760 between two preceptors?
Yes, up to two preceptors in one practicum. Each preceptor completes an Appendix B, and every site involved gets its own Appendix A, contract and approval email. Name one of the two as your primary preceptor. A second preceptor cannot be added during the final two weeks before the term.
Can I take NURS6760 in the same trimester as another practicum?
No. Graceland allows only one practicum per trimester, so the three FNP practicums take at least three trimesters. All three have to sit inside a 12-month window, so choose the adult practicum's term with the pediatric and Family terms in view.
