What shapes the cost of a Graceland University placement

Your track and the course in front of you
The setting a course requires is the biggest single factor. A primary care preceptor for the first two FNP practicums draws on a wide pool of family and internal medicine practices. An AGACNP practicum needs hospital or specialist clinicians, including ICU time in NURS5460 and an intensivist or emergency clinician in NURS5470. Every PMHNP practicum needs a psychiatrist or a certified PMHNP, often a smaller group in a given area.
Some specialties are scarce almost everywhere. The University of Kansas Health System, for instance, notes on its own student placement page that it has limited preceptors in family medicine, women's health, pediatrics and psychiatry. A course that depends on a thin specialty takes more searching, and the quote reflects that work.
Hours, splits and the number of preceptors
Most current Graceland NP students complete 750 hours in three practicums of 225, 225 and 300 hours; students who matriculated before August 2023 may be on the older totals. A 300-hour final practicum needs a preceptor who can host you for more weeks at 16-24 hours a week. Some courses also split between clinicians: NURS5450 needs internist or hospitalist hours plus pulmonology, and NURS6830 can combine primary care with up to 150 specialty hours.
Graceland's two-preceptor rule adds a second clinician somewhere in the sequence, and a practicum can have up to two preceptors of its own. You can ask us to quote a single practicum, a second preceptor for a practicum you have partly arranged, or the whole sequence planned together.
Where you live and train
A large metro area offers more practices to approach than a rural county, although a rural search can turn on one strong local lead. The state matters as well: Graceland accepts students from states where it is approved to offer practicums, your RN license must cover the state where the site sits, and PMHNP telehealth hours need a license wherever each patient is located.
Your own limits shape the search too. Willingness to drive further widens the pool; a shift pattern that leaves only certain weekdays open narrows it. We ask about both at the start so the quote matches the search you actually need, not a generic one.
How close your deadline is
Graceland's paperwork is due June 15 for Fall, October 15 for Spring and February 15 for Summer, and the handbook warns that students may need to start up to a year or more ahead. A search that begins two terms out can move at a steady pace. One that begins a few weeks before the deadline has to work faster and cast wider, and a site that needs a brand-new affiliation agreement leaves little margin.

The site and its paperwork
Sites differ in how much groundwork they need. A practice that already holds an affiliation agreement with Graceland lets the paperwork move quickly. A new site needs a contract contact and the coordinator's time, and a network with several addresses needs an agreement and an Appendix A for each address you will work at. Some hospitals and clinics also run their own student request software, which adds steps before Graceland's forms. Several Kansas City and Des Moines systems also set their own application windows months before a term, and we build those into the plan.

Graceland bills its tuition and program charges, including practicum-related charges listed on its Tuition & Fees page, to your student account, and Student Financial Services must clear you before practicum hours count. Questions Graceland students ask
Why is there no price list on this page?
Because no two Graceland plans are alike. A PMHNP student who needs a psychiatric preceptor in a small town and an FNP student with a pediatric practice already interested nearby call for very different amounts of work. Quoting each plan on its own is the clearest way to price it fairly, so every student gets a quote built for their situation.
Can I get a quote for just one practicum?
Yes. You can ask about one practicum, a second preceptor for a practicum you have partly arranged, or the full three-practicum sequence planned together. Planning the whole sequence at once makes Graceland's two-preceptor rule easier to meet, but the choice is yours, and many students start with the practicum in front of them.
Does a rush search change the quote?
It can. A search that starts a few weeks before Graceland's paperwork deadline has to reach more clinicians in less time, especially when the site will need a new affiliation agreement. The earlier you contact us, the more options stay open and the more steadily the search can run.
Is replacement help part of the quote if a preceptor drops out?
Your quote states how replacement searches work for the practicums it covers. When a preceptor steps away, your placement advisor starts looking for a clinician who fits the same course right away, and Graceland's substitute rule can cover up to 40 hours at your primary site while new paperwork moves.
