Connecticut and Graceland's online NP tracks
Connecticut is a "Yes" state on Graceland University's June 2020 licensure chart, the newest version Graceland has published. That settles the licensure question on paper but not whether the School of Nursing will take you, so confirm your state before enrolling. Then plan around the state's NP collaboration period, its program rules and a compact that began in October 2025.

The MSN row is among the shortest on the chart. It says Connecticut has no extra licensure requirements and follows the Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs from NONPF, the national organization of NP faculties.
A Yes is still not the approved-states answer. The School of Nursing accepts students from states where it is approved to offer practicum experiences and publishes no list. Confirm through the contact on the School of Nursing page; the licensure chart guide explains why the two questions differ.
Who can precept you in Connecticut
Connecticut NPs earn independence in stages: AANP calls the state full practice, but only after three years and 2,000 hours of working alongside a collaborating physician. A newer NP still inside that window can precept you if Graceland approves, and the collaborating physician may qualify too as a board-certified or board-eligible preceptor.
Connecticut's regulation for preceptors of advanced-level students (20-90-51(f)) sets its own bar. The preceptor holds an active RN license issued by Connecticut or by the state where you are being taught, has a BSN, and brings at least two years in the relevant role or specialty. Two years is above the minimum Graceland prints, which the handbook states as one year in one place and one to three in another. The rule sits in regulations aimed at programs leading to licensure, so ask the contract coordinators whether it reaches your track, and see Graceland's side on the preceptor requirements page.
How Connecticut treats schools from other states
No application to Connecticut is described for a school based elsewhere. Section 20-90-59 of the state's regulations grants "deemed approved" status to a program its own state board has approved, provided it also meets Connecticut's RN curriculum rule and comes from a state with equal or tougher licensure standards. Such a program still owes Connecticut its faculty and preceptor ratios and a written contract with each agency, and faculty teaching on site must be Connecticut-licensed RNs holding a bachelor's and a master's, at least one in nursing.
Like the preceptor rule, these sections speak to programs that lead to licensure rather than to graduate NP study. For your site, that written contract is Graceland's affiliation agreement.
Where to search, and your license
All four of Connecticut's metros sit inside the state: Hartford's (about 1.17 million people), Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury's, New Haven's and Waterbury-Shelton's. Large systems include Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven Health, plus Trinity Health Of New England and UConn Health; in western Connecticut, hospitals such as Danbury Hospital that once belonged to Nuvance now sit under New York-based Northwell Health. They are landmarks for a search, not places known to accept Graceland students.
Connecticut's first day in the Nurse Licensure Compact was October 1, 2025, and since then a Graceland student training here can rely on a Connecticut license or on the multistate license a compact home state issued; Graceland wants a board verification, as the RN license guide explains. Mind the borders: New York is a No state on Graceland's chart and outside the compact, and Massachusetts is Unknown and not yet honoring other states' multistate licenses. AGACNP students should also budget a trip to Independence, Missouri for their one focus session.

Does Graceland's MSN lead to APRN licensure in Connecticut?
Graceland's June 2020 chart answers Yes: Connecticut adds no requirements of its own and follows the NONPF criteria for NP programs. Because the chart is old, confirm with the School of Nursing that Connecticut is an approved state today, and check with the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing before you apply for APRN licensure.
Will my out-of-state RN license cover Connecticut practicum hours?
It will if it is a multistate license from a compact home state, which Connecticut has accepted since its compact start in October 2025. A single-state license from outside the compact means applying for Connecticut's own. Graceland then wants the board's verification for Connecticut, not a photo of the card.
Can I do practicum hours at a New York clinic near the Connecticut line?
Treat that as a separate question for the School of Nursing. Graceland's chart says the MSN will not lead to licensure in New York, New York is outside the compact, and any New York clinic would require a license issued by New York plus its own affiliation agreement. A Connecticut site keeps the plan simpler.
Do Connecticut's preceptor ratio rules apply to Graceland students?
The ratios are 1:2 for preceptors, 1:10 for clinical faculty with students in direct care, and 1:16 for faculty overseeing precepted students. They come from rules aimed at programs leading to licensure, and nothing says whether they reach an out-of-state NP program, so ask the contract coordinators if a site brings them up.
