Taking Graceland University's online NP tracks from Maine
Maine residents can study in Graceland University's online MSN: the June 2020 licensure chart says the degree meets Maine's requirements, and no Maine State Board of Nursing rule on out-of-state programs placing students in Maine has turned up. Distance is the real hurdle, so start early and have the School of Nursing confirm it places practicum students in Maine.

Maine on Graceland's licensure chart
Maine's MSN answer is Yes. The row says the state asks for nothing beyond the national standard: NP programs follow NONPF's evaluation criteria, graduates show a graduate degree that qualifies them to sit for certification, and Graceland states that its MSN clears that bar. Like every row, it carries the chart's June 2020 date, still Graceland's latest.

Licensure fit and practicum approval are different questions. The School of Nursing takes students from states where it holds practicum approval and answers the Maine question one applicant at a time, so write to the contact on its page. The chart guide explains how the two answers can differ.
Who can precept you in Maine
AANP counts Maine as full practice, but only after a transition: two years of supervised practice, with a physician or an NP as supervisor, or a job at a clinic or hospital whose medical director is a physician. Graceland's floor for NP preceptors is a year of experience (one handbook page says one to three years). Someone who finished NP school 18 months ago might pass Graceland's test while still inside Maine's supervised window, so ask about both clocks when you approach a clinic. Research turned up no Maine rule or Board guidance on schools from other states sending students into Maine clinics. Chapter 7 of the Board's rules is about approving schools inside Maine that prepare new nurses. The practice act's student exemption is for people training toward a first nursing license in a program the Board approved, which is not your situation: a Graceland graduate student practices on an RN license of their own from the first hour.
Maine systems, cities and drive times
A Maine search list might open with MaineHealth or Northern Light Health, then widen to MaineGeneral Health and Central Maine Healthcare. Portland-South Portland has the most people; Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn are the other two metros. Listing a system here does not mean it has agreed to host Graceland students. Some systems insist on their own student request software, and Graceland wants the contract coordinator told when that happens (more on sites with their own request systems).
Mileage matters here. Graceland expects 16 to 24 clinic hours a week, so a long commute repeats several days a week for a whole trimester. The northern border is a hard stop: every practicum hour must fall inside the United States and its territories, so a clinic in Canada never counts. The FNP program page's broader phrase, anywhere in the U.S., Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, still sits under the approved-states rule. AGACNP students face one more long trip: their focus session meets in person on the Independence, Missouri campus.
Your Maine RN license and the compact
Graceland needs clean RN licensure in two places, your home state and each practicum state, each proven by a board verification uploaded to Castle Branch. Maine's compact membership dates to January 19, 2018, which lets one multistate license do double duty: it covers in-state sites and a New Hampshire clinic too, if Graceland approves one there. Maine has not enacted the APRN Compact. PMHNP students who see telehealth patients in states outside the compact need those states' licenses too.

Questions Graceland students ask
Does Maine require Board approval before a Graceland practicum?
No Board rule or guidance on visiting programs has turned up, and its education rule deals with Maine schools that prepare new nurses. Graceland's own steps still apply in full: a site contract signed before any clinical activity, then an approval email for each preceptor and site.
Can an NP still in Maine's 24-month transition be my preceptor?
Possibly. Graceland judges experience by its own measure, at least a year in the handbook's main list (another page says one to three years), not by Maine's transition clock. An NP who works under supervision in Maine may still qualify for Graceland. Graceland decides once the preceptor submits Appendix B.
Could I count hours at a clinic in New Brunswick or Quebec?
No. Graceland's handbook requires every NP practicum hour to happen in the United States and its territories. A Canadian clinic cannot host Graceland practicum hours, however close it is to your Maine home. Look to Maine sites first, and to New Hampshire only if the School of Nursing confirms it can approve a practicum there for you.
Is Maine's Yes on Graceland's chart still reliable?
It is the best published answer, but it dates from June 2020 and has not been reissued, even though a later Graceland disclosure page says licensure information is reviewed yearly. Before you enroll or sign with a Maine site, request a fresh confirmation from the School of Nursing in writing.
