For Montana, the MSN answer on Graceland University's licensure chart is unknown, and that chart, from June 2020, is still the latest one posted. Graceland's four licensure charts all print June 2020 in the footer. On the MSN chart Montana is one of 13 states answered Unknown. Because the chart never lists tracks apart, Montana's single MSN answer applies whether you study family, acute care or psychiatric practice, and to the certificates and RN-to-MSN as well.

What Graceland's unknown sentence is telling you
The Montana row reasons in three steps. The MSN was built to ready students for Iowa licensure; Montana's board never signed off on it as a route to a Montana license; therefore Graceland cannot tell whether it meets Montana's educational requirements. It closes by sending anyone who wants to work in Montana to the state board before enrolling.
Unknown is not a no. Five states get a flat no on the chart; Montana simply never received a determination either way. The row also concerns licensure after graduation, not practicum permission. Whether Graceland can enroll a Montana resident and approve practicums there is its own question, and only the School of Nursing can answer it. The licensure chart guide covers the full chart.
How Montana treats a graduate program's clinicals
Montana's formal sign-off targets pre-licensure students. Under ARM 24.159.608, an out-of-state pre-licensure student may train in a Montana clinical setting only after the board or its executive director approves the school's written request, which must show that no Montana student loses a spot.
The Montana Board of Nursing's FAQ leaves graduate and RN-to-BSN programs outside that process. Its one condition follows from the patients: since you would be treating Montanans, your school has to confirm your license is active and good for Montana.
AANP rates Montana a full practice state. NP students searching there usually start in Billings, Bozeman, Missoula or Helena. Billings is home to Billings Clinic, now combined with Logan Health, and to St. Vincent Regional Hospital, part of Intermountain Health; Missoula has Providence St. Patrick Hospital; Benefis Health System is another name students meet. Your RN license for Montana practicum hours
Two licenses matter to Graceland: the unencumbered RN license for your home state, and one valid in each approved state that hosts practicum hours, each shown through a board verification. Montana's multistate licensing took effect on January 19, 2018. Its RN licensing page lets nurses licensed through another compact state work in Montana on that privilege alone, and a multistate Montana license works at home.

Can a Montana resident enroll in Graceland's online FNP?
Ask the School of Nursing first. Graceland takes NP students only from states in which it holds approval to offer practicums, and since it publishes no list, applicants have to ask. Ask the Montana Board of Nursing too, as the chart advises, since the June 2020 chart could not say whether the MSN meets Montana's licensure requirements.
Must Montana's nursing board sign off on Graceland first?
Not according to the board's FAQ. The approval process in ARM 24.159.608 is written for pre-licensure students, and graduate and RN-to-BSN programs sit outside it. Graceland's own steps still apply in full, including a signed affiliation agreement with the site before any clinical activity and a license valid in Montana.
Graceland's FNP page says practicums can happen anywhere in the U.S. Does that settle Montana?
Not on its own. The FNP page's wording opens practicums to any U.S. state, Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands, yet the School of Nursing also limits enrollment to approved states, and the handbook ties your license to the approved state where each site sits. When Graceland sources point different ways, the School of Nursing's current answer decides.
Will my Montana multistate license cover a practicum across the line in Wyoming or Idaho?
For RN practice, yes: both states put the compact in place on the same January 2018 date as Montana. Graceland still has to approve the practicum state, and Wyoming's board expects written notice from the school. Read the Wyoming and Idaho guides before choosing a site over the border.
