Ohio nurses and Graceland University's online programs
Graceland University's June 2020 chart marks Ohio "Unknown" for the MSN: Graceland had no way to judge whether its NP tracks satisfy Ohio's education standards for licensure. That is not a no, but it hands the licensure question to you and the Ohio Board of Nursing before you enroll. Ohio law is fairly open to students from programs elsewhere, with one wording detail about who supervises them.

The MSN row ends with a direct instruction: "Students who are interested in working in Ohio should contact the state board before enrolling in this program." Take it literally, then confirm with Graceland's School of Nursing that it takes Ohio students today. The licensure disclosures guide explains the chart's three answers.
How Ohio law treats students from programs elsewhere
Ohio's nursing statute does not ask programs based outside the state for approval or even notice. Section 4723.32 of the Revised Code works through exemptions instead: division (A) lets pre-licensure students train in Ohio when an NCSBN member board has approved their program, and division (F) does the same for APRN students.
Division (F) covers APRN students whose program leads to an approved national certification exam, or to a qualifying master's or doctoral degree, provided the work stays inside the program and an advanced practice nurse oversees it as the program's faculty, teaching assistant or preceptor.
The APRN detail matters because Graceland also accepts board-certified or board-eligible physicians as preceptors (see preceptor requirements). If your best Ohio match is a physician, ask the School of Nursing how it reads the APRN wording. Whether Ohio's Department of Higher Education expects anything of Graceland was outside our research, so add that to the same question.
Standard care arrangements and Ohio's health systems
AANP counts Ohio as reduced practice. Ohio NPs sign a standard care arrangement with a physician or podiatrist that lasts their whole career, and Schedule II prescribing is restricted in some settings.
Nurses in Ohio usually look toward Cleveland (Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals), Columbus (OhioHealth, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center), Cincinnati (Bon Secours Mercy Health) and Dayton. Every system runs its own student requests, and our research found no Ohio preceptor incentive.
Compact licensing arrived in 2023
Ohio began honoring multistate licenses on January 1, 2023, years after most compact states, and its board reports on how many nurses work in Ohio on another state's multistate license. Graceland's requirement sits on top: a clean RN license in your home state plus one for each approved state where you log hours, confirmed straight from the board (RN license rules).

Questions Graceland students ask
Can I take Graceland's online FNP from Ohio?
Possibly, but check two things first. The chart's Ohio answer for the MSN is unknown, so ask the Ohio Board of Nursing whether the degree would meet its requirements for APRN licensure. Then find out from Graceland whether Ohio residents are being admitted and practicums there approved.
Does Ohio make Graceland register before clinicals?
Not under Ohio's nursing law, which contains no approval or notice requirement aimed at schools from elsewhere and relies on student exemptions. Whether Ohio's Department of Higher Education expects anything was outside our research. Graceland's own rules still apply: every site needs an affiliation agreement and every preceptor completes Appendix B.
Can a physician precept me in Ohio?
Graceland accepts board-certified or board-eligible physicians, but Ohio's exemption for APRN students expects the supervising clinician to be an APRN acting as faculty, teaching assistant or preceptor for the program. Before relying on a physician-only placement there, check with the School of Nursing on how it applies that wording.
What does the chart say about states bordering Ohio?
Indiana is the only one marked as meeting. Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia share Ohio's unknown, and Kentucky's row is a no. None of that settles the Ohio licensure question, which belongs to the Ohio board, and a practicum in another state requires Graceland's approval and a license good in that state.
