Graceland practicums in Arizona: a Yes on the chart, a question for AZBN
Graceland University's June 2020 licensure chart, the latest it has posted, says the MSN leads to licensure in Arizona. Arizona's nursing board (AZBN) adds a step of its own: an APRN program based elsewhere must hold Board approval before any student begins clinical hours in the state. Once Graceland confirms your track is covered, Arizona's compact membership makes the licensing side simple.

Arizona on Graceland's four charts
Arizona belongs to the group of 32 Yes states for the MSN. Graceland's chart never splits the MSN by specialty, so that single row also governs the post-graduate certificates and the RN-to-MSN.

The MSN row leans on the HLC, which accredits Graceland as a whole, rather than CCNE, which accredits the nursing programs. That quirk and the chart's age both argue for asking the School of Nursing to confirm Arizona; the licensure chart guide explains its approved-states answer.
AZBN approval comes before the first clinical day
AZBN regulates pre-licensure and APRN programs, out-of-state ones included when their students train in Arizona. Its advisory opinion on APRN clinicals, revised in November 2020, has every program apply for Board approval before a single student does clinical work in the state. Schools get a quicker review when the board back home has approved the exact APRN track and the school holds national accreditation with a clean record.
Approval brings ongoing duties for the school: monitoring licensure for its director, faculty, preceptors and students, logging each placement, and answering a yearly survey or audit. RN-BSN programs go unmentioned. Iowa's board approves Graceland's MSN, certificates and DNP, but only the School of Nursing can tell you whether Graceland holds AZBN approval for your track, so ask before you court a preceptor.
Who precepts in Arizona, and where students look
Arizona NPs have full practice authority, so experienced NPs can precept every Graceland track. AZBN's opinion sets licensing floors: an APRN who precepts there carries Arizona APRN certification in addition to an unencumbered RN license, either Arizona's own or a multistate one, while physicians need a clean Arizona medical license. Graceland's preceptor requirements sit on top of those.
Greater Phoenix holds about 5.2 million residents and metro Tucson about 1.07 million, with smaller hubs such as Prescott. Valley students often approach HonorHealth, Phoenix Children's, Banner Health (including its academic Banner - University Medicine centers) and the Mayo Clinic campus; Tucson students look at TMC Health. Each keeps its own student process, and none should be taken as already open to Graceland.
A state grant under A.R.S. 36-1806 once backed graduate-level preceptors who volunteered, APRN learners included, with rural primary care given priority. In their FY 2027 report, the legislature's budget staff list nothing appropriated for FY 2026 or FY 2027, so it looks dormant, and its terms leave open whether preceptors of out-of-state students ever qualified.
Licensing: the compact works in your favor
Arizona entered the compact on January 19, 2018, the start date Missouri and Iowa share. AZBN expects out-of-state APRN students to carry a clean Arizona or multistate RN license, and Graceland wants board verification of a license valid in your home state and each practicum state, so one Arizona multistate license usually covers an Arizona resident on both counts (RN license guide).
Under R4-19-217, faculty overseeing a distance program's clinical students hold a license in the state where that clinical work happens. That falls to Graceland, but it is one more reason to raise the Arizona question well ahead of the dates on the deadlines page.

Does Graceland's online FNP work for someone living in Phoenix?
The June 2020 chart says the MSN, FNP included, leads to licensure in Arizona. Two things still need a current answer from the School of Nursing: that Arizona is among the states it accepts NP students from, and that its FNP track holds the AZBN approval required before clinicals. Get both before you commit to a start term.
My preceptor holds only California credentials. Does that work in Arizona?
Not for Arizona clinicals. AZBN wants APRN preceptors to hold Arizona APRN certification plus an Arizona or multistate RN license, and California issues no multistate licenses because it sits outside the compact. A California physician would likewise need an Arizona medical license before precepting you there.
Do RN-BSN practice experiences in Arizona need AZBN approval?
AZBN's opinion covers pre-licensure and APRN programs and says nothing about RN-BSN programs, and Graceland's RN-BSN row for Arizona is the standard post-licensure No. Some RN-BSN practice experiences can take place at your own employer when it helps meet course objectives, so ask your course faculty how that works in Arizona.
Which license covers PMHNP telehealth patients from Arizona?
For patients located in Arizona, an Arizona license or another compact state's multistate license covers the visit, and Graceland notes that compact licenses meet its telehealth rule in compact states. Patients sitting in California or Nevada, neither of them compact states, need that state's own license. The telehealth guide has the limits.
