Georgia's attention goes to licenses instead, covering the student, the preceptor and any faculty member who teaches into a Georgia clinic. Georgia's chart row and its practice-setting sentence
Most Yes rows on Graceland's chart talk about certification or board oversight. Georgia's is different. It reads: "Out of state nursing education programs that have faculty and student engaged in learning activities in Georgia practice settings must comply with the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse practice act." Put plainly, once your practicum moves into a Georgia clinic, Georgia's nursing law governs what happens there, wherever Graceland's campuses sit. The chart carries a June 2020 date.

What Georgia expects from you and your preceptor
Georgia's Board neither approves nor oversees post-licensure programs, APRN programs included, so Graceland files nothing with it for your practicum. Licensure takes the place of approval. A Georgia resident enrolled in a program from another state who completes clinical hours in Georgia needs licensure valid in Georgia, meaning a Georgia license or a multistate one issued by a fellow compact state, and faculty and preceptors who teach in Georgia, face to face or online, answer to the same rule.
The Board adds one line for post-licensure APRN programs: clinical instruction should be given by a nurse whom Georgia has authorized as an APRN. Graceland's handbook also accepts board-certified physicians as preceptors, so if your strongest Georgia lead is a physician, raise the Board's statement with the contract coordinators before you submit Appendix A.
AANP ranks Georgia restricted. A Georgia NP works under a physician's delegation or supervision, with tighter limits on Schedule II prescriptions, so expect a delegating physician behind most NP-run clinics you approach. Graceland's own tests are on the preceptor requirements page.
Atlanta and beyond: where students search
Big names on a Georgia search list include Emory Healthcare, Piedmont Healthcare and Wellstar Health System, with Grady Health System and Northside Hospital alongside. Metro Atlanta, officially Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, holds far more people than any other Georgia metro, yet Savannah, Augusta and Columbus widen the map. These are examples of where students look; each system decides on students its own way, and none is pre-arranged for Graceland.
Two metros spill over the state line: the Augusta metro takes in part of South Carolina, and the Columbus metro part of Alabama. Both neighbors are Yes states on Graceland's chart and compact members, but a site over either line still needs Graceland's approval for that state.
Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program rewards preceptors of students enrolled in Georgia's own NP, medical and PA programs, so it does not reach a Graceland student's preceptor. Georgia AHEC's description of the HB 144 revision keeps that limit.
Licenses for Georgia practicum hours
Here Graceland and Georgia point the same way. Graceland wants an unencumbered RN license for your home state and one for every practicum state, verified with the board and uploaded to Castle Branch. Georgia's multistate licenses date to its compact start on January 19, 2018, and a resident holding one clears both Graceland checks for in-state clinics. Questions Graceland students ask
Does Graceland need Georgia Board approval for my MSN practicum?
No approval is involved. Georgia's Board stays out of approving post-licensure programs, and it counts APRN programs in that group. What Georgia does require is proper licensure for the student and for anyone teaching in a Georgia setting. Graceland's contract coordinators still set up an affiliation agreement with each Georgia site before your hours count.
What license must a Georgia preceptor hold?
Georgia wants the preceptor's license valid in Georgia, either Georgia-issued or a compact state's multistate credential at the RN level. For NP preceptors, the Board expects APRN-program teaching from a nurse Georgia has authorized as an APRN. Graceland separately requires every preceptor to hold an unencumbered license where the site is located.
Can a physician precept me for a Graceland practicum in Georgia?
Graceland's handbook accepts board-certified or board-eligible physicians. Georgia's Board, though, says clinical instruction in post-licensure APRN programs is conducted by a nurse authorized as an APRN in Georgia. Before you commit to a physician-only arrangement, ask the contract coordinators how Graceland applies that statement, and consider pairing the physician with a Georgia-authorized NP.
Can I use a clinic across the line in Alabama or South Carolina?
Possibly. Each is a Yes state on Graceland's June 2020 chart and takes part in the compact, which means your Georgia multistate license travels. Graceland still has to approve practicum experiences in that state for you, the site needs its own affiliation agreement, and the preceptor must be licensed where the clinic sits. Ask the School of Nursing first.
