Kansas practicums for Graceland University students
Graceland University's June 2020 chart says its MSN will lead to licensure in Kansas, and the Kansas board looks at programs like Graceland's only once a graduate files for an APRN license. What Kansas does insist on is a preceptor with a Kansas APRN license in your role, and on Kansas City's Kansas side the biggest system keeps its own request calendar.

Kansas on Graceland's chart
Kansas gets one of the plainest rows Graceland wrote: the MSN will lead to licensure there. No chart newer than June 2020 has been posted, so treat that line as Graceland's last word in print and confirm Kansas's approved-state status for your track with the School of Nursing. How the Kansas board reviews a Graceland MSN
Kansas checks the program at the finish line, not the starting gate. KSBN's guidance lets Kansans start an online APRN program from another state without any board sign-off; the program's turn comes once a graduate files for Kansas APRN licensure.
The board then wants three-credit minimums in advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology and advanced health assessment, 45 or more credits overall, national accreditation, and role-and-specialty clinical hours: 500 if you were admitted before March 1, 2025, otherwise 750.
Graceland's figures line up. The MSN is a 45-credit, CCNE-accredited degree, current NP tracks carry 750 practicum hours, and even the older 600-hour FNP and 540-hour AGACNP and PMHNP totals top 500. Post-graduate certificates carry fewer credits, so certificate students should ask KSBN how it counts coursework from their first master's.
Who can precept you in Kansas
Kansas NPs hold full practice authority in the AANP's classification, and KSBN is specific about preceptors (K.A.R. 60-17-104): they should be oriented, sign an agreement and hold Kansas APRN licensure matching the role you are studying. Supervising APRN students at a Kansas site takes that license, so a Missouri NP who also sees patients in Kansas needs the Kansas credential before precepting you there.
Graceland's own standards sit on top, including its exclusion of physician assistants; the preceptor requirements page lists them. Put the preceptor's Kansas license on Appendix B so the contract coordinators see the match at a glance.
Kansas City, Topeka, Wichita and Manhattan
Roughly 938,000 Kansans live on their side of the Kansas City metro; the state's other metros are Wichita, Topeka and Manhattan. Stormont Vail Health, The University of Kansas Health System, Ascension Via Christi and Wichita's Wesley Healthcare, part of HCA Healthcare, are large systems NP students approach. Every one sets its own student rules, and none has an arrangement with Graceland.
KU's policy for students of any school is the most detailed. Since March 2026 its 39th and Rainbow campus has matched students to preceptors centrally, takes requests only from the program or a student the program sends, and asks students to leave individual preceptors alone. Fall requests close April 30, and it reports thin supply in psychiatry, pediatrics, family medicine and women's health. The Kansas City guide sets its windows against Graceland's deadlines. If a Kansas site has its own request portal, flag it to the contract coordinator first.
Your RN license at a Kansas site
Kansas joined the Nurse Licensure Compact on July 1, 2019, later than Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Citing K.S.A. 65-1124, KSBN says an APRN student at a Kansas site works on an RN license Kansas recognizes, whether Kansas-issued or multistate. Questions Graceland students ask
Does Kansas have to approve Graceland before I enroll from Kansas?
No. KSBN reviews out-of-state online APRN programs at the licensure stage, not at enrollment. The question to settle first is Graceland's own approved-state check, which the School of Nursing asks every applicant to run with it before starting.
I started Graceland on the 600-hour FNP plan. Is that enough for Kansas?
For a student admitted before March 1, 2025, Kansas sets the bar at 500 role-specialty hours, so 600 clears it. Graceland moved its NP tracks to 750 hours for students matriculating from August 1, 2023, and says returning students switch to 750 once Fall 2026 starts. Can my Missouri-licensed NP supervise my hours at a Kansas clinic?
Only if they also hold a Kansas APRN license in the role you are studying. KSBN treats clinical supervision of APRN students in Kansas as requiring that license. Raise it early with any preceptor who works on both sides of the line, and make sure the Kansas license appears on their Appendix B.
Do I need a Kansas RN license if I live in Missouri?
Any compact state's multistate license, Missouri's included, covers the RN side, since KSBN accepts a Kansas license or a multistate one for APRN students at Kansas sites. Graceland still asks for a board verification that covers each state where you log practicum hours.
