Graceland University practicums for Minnesota nurses
Minnesota nurses can look seriously at Graceland University's online NP tracks: the June 2020 licensure chart puts Minnesota in the meets column. Two features set the state apart. NPHub, Graceland's optional paid placement partner, serves most states but not Minnesota, so Minnesota students arrange practicums through Graceland's standard route. And Minnesota remains outside the multistate Nurse Licensure Compact.

Minnesota's row on Graceland's chart
Graceland's licensure charts date from June 2020 and are still the newest it offers. Minnesota's MSN row leans on Iowa: it says the Minnesota Board of Nursing needs no separate approval because Graceland's MSN holds Iowa Board of Nursing approval. That single answer applies to the FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP tracks, the RN-to-MSN and the certificates.

Minnesota's own rules point the same way. Minn. R. 6305.0300 treats a program approved in its home state as one approved by the board for student purposes, while expecting the supervising instructor to be a Minnesota-licensed, currently registered RN. Research found no separate Board step for schools elsewhere. Graceland's approved-practicum list is still the answer to get in writing; the chart guide explains why.
Arranging practicums without the placement partner
Graceland's 2026 Graduate Student Handbook says it has partnered with NPHub to find preceptors for FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP students "in most states except Minnesota." Its opt-in form and matching steps do not apply to Minnesota practicums.
Minnesota students follow Graceland's standard path: practicums arranged by the student with Graceland's assistance, a preceptor found with help from the Graduate Practicums Coordinator, Appendix A from you, Appendix B from the preceptor, and a signed affiliation agreement before the first hour. The contract coordinators and course lead faculty approve every Minnesota preceptor and site; the placement process page walks through the order. Who precepts in Minnesota, and where
Minnesota NPs reach full practice, in AANP's terms, once they have 2,080 hours behind them in a collaborative arrangement with a physician or another APRN. Newer NPs may still be working through those hours; Graceland's own experience rules for NP preceptors are on the preceptor requirements page.
Searches cluster in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington metro, where about 3.6 million Minnesotans live, and then Rochester, St. Cloud and Duluth. Allina Health, Essentia Health, HealthPartners, M Health Fairview and Mayo Clinic are the big systems, each with its own student rules. Mayo's NP clinical education page, for example, sets three conditions: Mayo must hold an affiliation agreement with the school, the student needs an unencumbered Minnesota license that is currently registered, and a background study through the state's Department of Human Services must be complete. Those are Mayo's site terms, stricter than state law.
Minnesota's MERC training support from the Department of Health requires the teaching program itself to be located in Minnesota, so it does not extend to Graceland placements.
Your Minnesota license at the state lines
Minnesota is a non-compact state with no compact bill pending. Graceland asks for an unencumbered RN license, verified by the board, in your home state and in every state that hosts your practicum hours, so Minnesota hours call for a Minnesota license. State law (Minn. Stat. 148.271(6)) exempts RNs licensed elsewhere who are studying for a higher degree, but Graceland's handbook and sites such as Mayo ask for the license anyway.
The limit also runs outward. Both the Twin Cities metro and the Duluth metro cross into Wisconsin, and Iowa sits to the south; both are compact states, yet a Minnesota license carries no privilege in either. Can Minnesota students use NPHub through Graceland?
Not for Minnesota practicums. Graceland's 2026 handbook describes the partnership as covering FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP students in most states except Minnesota. Minnesota students arrange practicums with Graceland's help or with a placement service like ours, and the contract coordinators approve every site either way. Does Graceland accept online NP students who live in Minnesota?
The June 2020 chart answers Yes for Minnesota's MSN row, citing the Iowa Board's approval. Graceland shares its current approved-states list only on request, so email the contact on the School of Nursing page with your track and the area where you plan to do practicums before you apply.
Do I need a Minnesota license if I hold an Iowa multistate license?
Yes, for any hours inside Minnesota. The compact stops at the Minnesota border, so an Iowa multistate license does not cover practice there. Graceland wants a verified license in each practicum state, and Mayo Clinic's student page adds a Minnesota license condition of its own. Apply well before you submit Appendix A.
I live in western Wisconsin and work in the Twin Cities. Where should my practicum be?
Start on the side your license already covers. A Wisconsin multistate license reaches Wisconsin sites and other compact states, while a Minnesota clinic needs a Minnesota license too, so staying on your license's side of the river saves a second application. Confirm the state with Graceland either way.
