Graceland University NP practicums in Texas
Graceland University's June 2020 MSN chart answers "Yes" for Texas, citing a 2014 exemption from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board that rests on Graceland's Higher Learning Commission accreditation. Two other Texas facts shape a practicum search more than that row does: the Board of Nursing's out-of-state approval rules are written for pre-licensure schools, and Texas NPs practice under physician delegation.

The Texas row reads more like an authorization note than a licensure verdict, and it is over six years old. Whether Graceland places NP students in Texas today is for the School of Nursing to say; the licensure disclosures guide explains how to ask.
What the Texas Board of Nursing rules cover
Texas requires board approval before an out-of-state nursing school's students begin clinical learning in the state, NC-SARA membership or not. Read the scope closely, though. The board's guideline on out-of-state programs (Education Guideline 3.1.3, in its May 2026 revision) applies that requirement to pre-licensure schooling, from vocational nursing through the entry-level master's. Its out-of-state approval rules leave post-licensure RN-BSN programs and graduate APRN programs outside.
Graduate NP education appears instead in Chapter 219 of the board's rules. Those standards allow an APRN, or another licensed clinician who can supervise and teach, to precept, and they call for written agreements tying program, preceptor and agency together. Nationally accredited programs fall outside board approval, which lines up with the exemption on Graceland's row.
Graceland's own list is tighter than Chapter 219. Physician assistants may never precept a Graceland practicum, and relatives, supervisors and your own unit are ruled out as well; see who cannot precept you. On Graceland's side, the written paperwork is the affiliation agreement signed with each site.
Restricted practice across four big metros
AANP places Texas in its restricted tier. Physician delegation and supervision follow a Texas NP through their whole career, along with written protocols and limits on the settings where Schedule II drugs can be prescribed. Your NP preceptor will therefore have a delegating physician in the picture, and board-certified or board-eligible physicians in a primary care area can precept you directly.
Most Texas searches happen in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin metros, the state's four largest. Houston Methodist and San Antonio's University Health appear on many students' lists; so do Baylor Scott & White Health, the academic UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Texas Health Resources network. Every one keeps its own student process and none has a standing arrangement with Graceland.
Incentives are thin for NP preceptors. Texas's preceptor benefit at public colleges covers RN preceptors of undergraduate pre-licensure students only, and no Texas tax credit for NP preceptors turned up.
Licensing for Texas practicum hours
The current Nurse Licensure Compact took effect in Texas on January 19, 2018. A multistate license from another compact home state therefore usually lets you work as an RN in Texas with no separate Texas license. Graceland wants board verification of an unencumbered license for your home state and every practicum state, as the RN license page explains. PMHNP students whose telehealth patients live in non-compact states need a license in each of those states.

Questions Graceland students ask
Must Texas's nursing board approve Graceland before my NP practicum?
The board's out-of-state approval rules, set out in Education Guideline 3.1.3, are written for pre-licensure schools and leave graduate APRN programs outside, and Graceland's June 2020 row cites an exemption tied to national accreditation. Whether Texas is on Graceland's current approved-states list is a separate question for the School of Nursing.
Can a physician assistant precept me in Texas?
Not for a Graceland practicum. Texas APRN education standards allow licensed professionals beyond NPs to precept, but Graceland's handbook bars physician assistants from precepting any practicum hours. Look for an NP who meets Graceland's degree and experience standard or a board-certified or board-eligible physician.
Will my out-of-state RN license work for Texas hours?
An unencumbered multistate license from another compact state generally works, since Texas is a compact state. Nurses based in a non-compact state need a Texas license. Graceland asks for board verification either way.
Is there any Texas incentive for my NP preceptor?
None was found. The Texas preceptor benefit at public colleges serves RN preceptors of undergraduate pre-licensure students, and the state's Nursing Shortage Reduction Program funds Texas schools themselves, not individual preceptors. Your preceptor completes Graceland's Appendix B each term.
